The Yankees didn’t survive long in the MLB postseason. Let’s hope for better luck next season but there are still some great sporting events on their way to New York. November 20th and 21st sees WWE in New York with a Supershow and the Survivor Series.
There have been some great wrestlers from New York in the past. At present, it’s New York born Damian Priest who is enjoying great success in WWE. He’s the current US Champion and is bound to be on the Survivor Series card that is being held at the Barclays Center on the 21st.
The night before that massive show, WWE hold a Supershow at the War Memorial Arena in Syracuse. Why is it called a Supershow? Well, it’s because the best wrestlers from both Raw and Smackdown will be appearing. This includes WWE champion Big E., Universal champion Roman Reigns, Drew McIntyre, and Rey Mysterio.
Sunday is even more super though as it’s the Survivor Series. This is the fourth time that this event has been held in New York and never has it failed to deliver. The Survivor Series is known for its 4v4 and 5v5 team matches. These aren’t decided by just one pin or submission. Instead, one member of the team is eliminated. This could end up with one wrestler up against three or four. When one team is finally eliminated, then you have your winners aka survivors.
Recent years have seen the show feature Raw v Smackdown matches. That’s likely to be the case this year, so who could New Yorker Damian Priest face?
Pro wrestling may have predetermined results, but bookies still offer the chance to win some dollars. The top events such as the Survivor Series will have odds offered on them by top bookies.
That’s something to look forward to when New York finally joins many other states and legalizes sports betting. According to the US betting guide NYfreebet.com, that’ll hopefully happen in 2022/2023, so count down those days and get ready to bet.
Last year saw the US Champion face the Intercontinental belt holder, as Bobby Lashley beat Sami Zayn. If that format is retained for 2021, then we could be looking at Priest facing the Japanese wrester Shinsuke Nakamura.
Priest is still relatively new to the main WWE roster. He joined the company three years ago and joined the NXT brand, winning the North American title. Priest appeared at this year’s Royal Rumble in January 2021 and then debuted on Raw. He was given a match at WrestleMania this year in which he tagged with the rap singer (and surprisingly good wrestler) Bad Bunny.
His success in the company continued at Summerslam in August. That’s where he won the US title from Sheamus. Nakamura is an experienced Japanese wrestler, renowned for his strong style and ring walk. Priest v Nakamura is a match-up that would certainly get the fans cheering both wrestlers. It’s likely to be one of several bouts that will entertain the fans.
Roman Reigns v Big E has the potential of being a controversial match. Reigns and ‘The Bloodline’ will do anything to ensure they win. RK-Bro could be up against the Uso’s (part of the Bloodline) in a battle of the tag champs. Even better will be a clash between the two women’s champions Becky Lynch (Raw) and Charlotte Flair (Smackdown), so the Survivor Series is not to be missed.
