New York Jets Making Moves to Find Their Way Back

One of the most exciting teams to watch during the 2022 offseason will be the New York Jets. GM Joe Douglas will enter his fourth season at the franchise’s helm. For now, he has a record of 13-36, which would have brought down many executives in the league. However, his superiors understood that he would do a long-term job and were patient. Now Douglas will need to start showing results.

In terms of squad-building philosophy, one of his main focuses was the offensive line. He signed several players in free agency and picked Mekhi Becton and Alijah Vera-Tucker in the first round and others in lower picks. Plus, after being tied to Adam Gase and Sam Darnold early in his career, he’s also had the opportunity to pick a coach and quarterback. So the last offseason, he hired Robert Saleh to lead the team and used the second overall pick in the draft to select QB Zach Wilson. Are you ready to place your bets in NY? Then see some NY sportsbooks created by experts.

These moves meant that the main pieces for the franchise were positioned based on Douglas’ decision-making. Therefore, the team will now need an upward trajectory in terms of results to validate their GM’s choices. To help with this process, he will enter a pivotal offseason, in which he will have plenty of room to work in free agency and the draft.

Let’s See The Team’s Main Moves In 2022

January 14 – Signed DE Bradlee Anae to a reserve/future contract.

January 8 – Signed TE Lawrence Cager and WR Rodney Adams to reserve/future contracts.

January 5 – Signed K Matt Ammendola, WRs Tarik Black and D.J. Montgomery, TE Brandon Dillon, OLs Grant Hermanns, Ross Pierschbacher, Dru Sami, and Isaiah Williams, and DLs Hamilcar Rashed and Tanzel Smart to reserve/future contracts.

January 3 – Waived DE Shaq Lawson and S Sharrod Neasman. Promoted DE Ronnie Blair, WR Tarik Black, and Ol Ross Pierschbacher to the active roster from the practice squad.

January 2 – Placed WR Braxton Berrios on injured reserve. Waived DE Vinny Curry from the non-football injury list.

January 1 – Activated DL Kyle Phillips from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

The first step to making the Jets process successful is for Zach Wilson to demonstrate progress from his rookie year. He started 13 games, winning just three, totaling 55.6% of passes for 2334 yards (6.1 per attempt), 9 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in these games. In addition, he ran 29 times for 185 yards and 4 touchdowns.

The signs were not very promising. Wilson has demonstrated flashes of arm talent and the ability to win outside the structure, but these are not very stable traits in the league. He also exhibited problems with slow processing to run progressions and make decisions and footwork that often hampered his decision-making. So when you combine the eye test with the numbers, it’s easy to say he’s had a bad season.

Wilson has the environment and talent to evolve with a promising offensive coordinator like Mike LaFleur in charge of the offense and with his trainer as the franchise’s QB coach. If he gets more help from the rest of the cast, he could have a big jump in his second year.

First, to start talking about the players, we have to talk about Zack Wilson. He’s demonstrated in preseason games that he can be the Jets’ franchise quarterback, with accurate passing and ease in the pocket, pre-snap reading, and plenty of field leadership.

Along with this, WRs Corey Davis and Elijah Moore can make the attack more dynamic and reliable. That way, significantly improving the numbers from last year, when it was the worst in the league, averaging 279.9 yards and a measly 15.2 points averaging per game.

Likewise, LB C.J. Mosley is the leading name in the sector for defense. Quinnen Williams, Folorunso Fatukasi, and Sheldon Rankins can form an excellent defensive line group.

Lastly, the secondary has young talents such as Bryce Hall, Isaiah Simmons, and veteran Lamarcus Joyner, and they will need to prove themselves and raise the bar if the team hopes to have good results this year.

The End Of Afc East Was A Start For The Moves.
