Vermont Balloonist Brian Borland dies in fall

A veteran hot-air balloon rider was caught under a basket and died after falling from a large height.

Brain Borland, 72, of Post Mills, Vermont, landed in the field and was sentenced to death on Thursday. According to Vermont Police..

During the flight, the balloon began to descend and one of the four passengers dropped out.

“During this sequence, the pilot was caught in gear attached to the balloon as it rose again, eventually trapped under the basket, and eventually fell,” police said.

The balloon moved another 1.5 miles before it got caught in a tree. The other three passengers who were able to get off safely.

The balloon began a deadly descent when Borland reportedly switched fuel tanks.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the accident.

“I still can’t believe it,” said one neighbor Told Valley News.. “Brian was an integral part of our neighborhood.”
