An unhinged man attacked a young woman who passed him on an Upper East Side street during a gruesome, unprovoked attack caught on video, police said Saturday.
The 27-year-old victim was attacked by a man without provocation around 6 a.m. on July 14 as she was walking down Park Avenue near E. 81 Street, police said.
Surveillance video of the incident shows the man wearing orange shorts, white socks pulling up his calves, and brown Crocs casually walking down the sidewalk.
Officers said the man said nothing to the victim before firing the violent haymaker.
The woman suffered deep cuts to her head and was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital where she was treated and released.
The assailant fled, but reappeared on Fifth Avenue, where surveillance cameras caught him quietly walking down the street under construction scaffolding.
On Saturday, police released surveillance images of the suspect in hopes that someone could recognize him.
He is described as a black man of large build, dark afro with a full beard. He is believed to be about 5ft 9.
