San Salvador, El Salvador (AP) — A week after El Salvador became the first country to create Bitcoin fiat currency, problems continued to plague the system on Tuesday.

El Salvador unveiled a digital wallet called “Chivo” on September 8th, but the system is often down for maintenance. It could be overloaded by a huge number of Salvadorians trying to take advantage of the $ 30 bonus they put into each account to encourage adoption by the government.

Even users like the street vendor César Estrada who could download the wallet did not have access to Bitcoin.

“After a few attempts, I was able to download the Chivo wallet, but I couldn’t spend $ 30,” says Estrada.

The problem is not limited to technical glitches. One of the young workers at Chivo’s automated teller machines has set up to process similarly approved transactions.

“The problem continues, but there’s also a lot of misinformation,” said a worker who identifies himself only as Stephen.

“People say that if someone downloads the app, the government can spy them on or empty their bank accounts,” he said incredibly. “Many things are said to come to people’s minds, but in addition, the system first collapses and errors continue.”
