The 2020 NBA Draft was full of turmoil

There was a deal hours before the 2020 NBA Draft. There was another deal 40 minutes before the first pick on Wednesday night.

It was a preview of the future Wild Night.

Georgia shooting guard Anthony Edwards first to Timberwolves, seven-foot-1 shot eraser James Wiseman second to Warriors, and after the first three picks in the first ever virtual NBA draft. Last Ball Brothers, Ramero, Hornets No. 3 — Everyone’s simulated draft has become obsolete. A stunning choice followed. There were more and more deals.

The prediction of chaos by many experts and scouts was accurate.

“Thanks to this year, everything has floated in the air,” said forward Jalen Smith, a surprise selection for the 10th Sands. “It wasn’t a traditional draft.”

The turmoil began in earnest with Florida combo forward Patrick Williams. Patrick Williams was fourth in the Bulls, not even a regular Deep Seminole starter, with an average of 9.2 points and 4.0 rebounds this past season. The pick either abandoned the entire first round, or at least changed the way it was supposed to end. This caused Obitoppin of the National Player of the Year to fall to Knicks at number 8 and forward Denia Vdia to head for Wizards at number 9. This is the best draft spot ever for Israelites. Both players made some picks after they were supposed to be off the board.

Iowa State University’s sharp point guard, Tyrie’s Halliburton, was rated as the second best point guard in the draft after the ball and fell to 12th place, this time on the back court loaded with Kings. Join Ron Fox and Buddy Hield.

Perhaps the biggest surprise was Smith in Maryland going to Sands in 10th place. The big man, who can shoot three-point shots and block shots at high speed, gives Deandre Ayton a great compliment. There was suspicion that Smith would go even in the first round. There was similar feelings about Isaia Stewart, a one-time outlook for Washington, an old school forward drafted by Pistons in 16th place.

“It was a surreal moment after I was drafted by them,” Smith said. “It was a crazy feeling. All night I told my family I wasn’t going to cry, and they kept telling me that you were going to cry when I didn’t think I would. When that moment hit, those tears continued to fall. “

The 76ers were one of the most active teams. Philadelphia began a surge in trading earlier that day, ESPN reported with Al Horford and his nasty deal, Serbian point guard Vasily Mick, the first round pick of 2025. Sniper Danny Green and Tsubasa Terrance Ferguson sent Thunder the rights to the second round of this year’s draft. The Sixers then increased their shots with Seth Curry from Josh Richardson’s Mavericks, winning his 36th overall pick. This is the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, Tyler Bay, Colorado Wing.

Many believed that the limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic: true combines, in-house training, and elimination of NCAA tournaments could lead to upside-down drafts. Several scouts said there were small differences between many outlooks due to the lack of evaluation events and the depth of the draft.

This year’s draft will obviously take longer to evaluate than in most cases. The players taken do not have the Summer League to put their feet under them. They report to the training camp in two weeks, and then the match begins in three weeks. According to one scout, you can see which players love basketball and are enthusiastic about the game.

“Obviously it was different. Life is crazy now,” Halliburton said. “But I’m not going to sit here and complain to you about what’s going on. At the end of the day I’m in the NBA.”

After waiting months and months of training, the dream of this year’s class has finally come true. The road to this point was certainly unique and, unlike other groups of prospects, had to be navigated.

“Many people are watching it because the draft took too long,” said Edwards, the number one pick. “I saw it and gave me just enough time to get to where I needed it, just before I needed to report where I was going.”
