Thanksgiving Feed-the-Troops meals are served in a “grab and go style”

November 25th – The US military’s annual Thanksgiving Feed-the-Troops tradition shifts to grab-and-go style takeaway meals rather than large group gatherings at dining facilities.

The Defense Logistics Agency announced Wednesday’s COVID-19 pandemic-motivated changes, but ensured that service members would receive “including all trimmings” home cooking during Thanksgiving holidays.

“This holiday will look quite different to everyone,” said Army Brig, DLA’s military support commander. General Gavin Lawrence said. “Especially as many of us can’t be with family and friends, as much as possible to ensure that our workforce has a proper holiday meal for our fighters. DLA said it shipped 9,000 pounds of whole turkey, 51,000 pounds of grilled turkey, 74,000 pounds of beef, 21,000 pounds of ham, 67,000 pounds of shrimp, 16,000 pounds of sweet potatoes, 19,000 pounds of pie and cake, and 7,000 gallons of eggnog. Said. Annual meal.

“Our supply chain takes vacations very seriously,” said Army Colonel Eric McCoy, DLA’s Director of Military Support and Survival. “Our military is far from home and they are definitely looking forward to this meal. Disappointing them is not an option.”

The dietary change was due to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention earlier this month urging Americans not to travel on Thanksgiving holidays to limit the spread of COVID-19.
