Texas Governor Buses More Immigrants To Chicago, New York City As Title 42 Is Expected To Be Lifted

New York City (WABC) — Texas governor says he will resume bussing immigrants to protected cities again as COVID-era public health policies are expected to be lifted.
The news is a problem for New York City, which has spent the past year grappling with an influx of immigrants.
City officials say more than 53,000 migrants entered the city’s shelter system last year, with many arriving at the Port Authority.
About 200 asylum seekers are currently arriving in the city each day, but that number will increase when Title 42 is lifted on May 11. That is the COVID-era public health policy that has driven immigrants out so quickly.
“Everyone sees May 11 as the end of Title 42. In my eyes, Title 42 may already be over. I am,” said Rep. Tony Gonzalez. , (R) Texas said.
The imminent influx is why Texas Governor Greg Abbott says he has started bussing immigrants to sanctuary cities again.
Sent by Abbott Letter to the Mayor of Chicago On Monday, he said the immigration crisis isn’t just a Texas problem, it’s a national problem.
So Abbott began bussing immigrants again to protected cities like New York and Chicago.
Mayor Eric Adams says the move is problematic not only because the governor is doing politics, but because he’s using the crisis to hurt black-run cities. The five moving cities are run by Black Democrats.
Much like New York City, the influx is straining Chicago’s resources.
“Right now, there are at least 40,000 refugees waiting at the border. has not yet taken action,” said 25th District Councilor Byron Sigcho-Lopez.
The city expects to spend $4.3 billion on services for asylum seekers by the end of 2024.
