Workers demanded a salary increase in line with the surge in inflation, which was 5.5% in October.

The agreement stipulates that salaries will increase by 2% each year until December 2023. In addition, if inflation is higher, the employer will pay 2% and 80% of the difference in inflation.

“We are happy and the union is happy,” José Muñoz, general secretary of the Cadiz Metalwork Employers group, told the public broadcaster RTVE.

Juan Linares, head of the industrial sector of Spain’s largest CCOO union, said: At the end of the road, workers will not lose purchasing power throughout the three-year process. “
