Small earthquake hits near San Jose, felt in San Francisco

A small 3.7-magnitude quake struck near San Jose and was felt as far away as San Francisco, seismologists and residents say.

The quake, which struck at 3:13 p.m. Monday, was centered about 10 miles east of San Jose, or 48 miles southeast of San Francisco.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) gave Monday’s quake a magnitude of 3.7. It is said to have collided about four miles below the surface.

There were no reports of damage or injuries so far, but the tremor was felt throughout San Jose. It was also felt in Sunnyvale, San Mateo, Fremont, Oakland and San Francisco.
