Shooting reported near VCU in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. — Police responded Tuesday to a report of a shooting near Virginia Commonwealth University, but it was not immediately clear if anyone was injured, officials said.
The VCU said in an evening online alert that officers were on the scene in the Monroe Park area near the campus and the Grand Theater.
A spokesperson for VCU Police has asked Richmond police to investigate. City police spokesman Tracy Walker said they were on their way to the scene but didn’t have specific details.
Richmond Public Schools spokesman Matthew Stanley said in an email that he didn’t have the full details of what happened, but that he was able to confirm the incident happened in Monroe Park after high school. .
Richmond Public Schools said on its website that another graduation ceremony scheduled for late Tuesday has been canceled “out of an abundance of caution.”
State police issued an alarm warning people to avoid the area.
