The dose of Pfizer COVID-19 is heading to a New York City hospital.
A new COVID-19 vaccine box was seen arriving at NYU Langone Health-Tisch Hospital at 550 1st Avenue in Manhattan. A video released by the hospital shows the vaccine arriving via UPS and brought to a storage location in the hospital.
The hospital will follow the CDC guidelines regarding the storage and administration of the initial dose of the vaccine. Currently, hospitals within the NYU Langone Health system offer the COVID-19 vaccine only to front-line workers.
The Pfizer vaccine was approved by the FDA for emergency use on 11 December, immediately assigning 170,000 doses to 72,000 at-risk medical staff and long-term care facility residents throughout the state. When staff in NYU Langone begin to be vaccinated, the medical system begins planning to distribute the vaccine to patients.
“Once we start vaccination of our staff, an extensive vaccine program for patients is underway,” said Michael S. Phillips, MD, MD, chief epidemiologist at NYU Langone, in a press release.
December 14th was the first day healthcare workers started vaccination with the COVID-19 vaccine in the state. Initially, I went to Northwell Health nurse Sandra Lindsey and was managed by Dr. Michel Chester at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center. The vaccine was given during Governor Cuomo’s live stream.
Five New York City hospitals have begun receiving the new COVID-19 vaccine. Mayor De Blasio announced that 37 additional hospitals will be vaccinated on Tuesday, December 15th, followed by two more hospitals on Wednesday, December 16th.
