December 13 – Seahawks star safety Jamal Adams broke the record for a defensive back single-season sack during the team’s explosive victory over the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon in Seattle’s Lumenfield.
Adams recorded a historic sack in the middle of the second quarter when Jets quarterback Sam Darnold pushed the limits behind the line of scrimmage. In the bag, it made his total 8 1/2 in the 2020-21 season.
Arizona Cardinals Safety Adrian Wilson held a record of eight sack defensive backs in the 2005 campaign. Wilson reached that total in 16 games, but Adams surpassed it in his nine games. Adams missed four games this year due to an inguinal injury.
“I told myself and I told everyone when I failed on the 6 1/2 sack last year, so it feels pretty cool when I look at something … everyone says I’m going to break the record. I told Adams Said after the Seahawks 40-3 victory.. “Some thought I was crazy, others believed in me, but all that was important was that I believed in myself.
“… To be honest, I’m trying to smash it. This is just the beginning.”
The Seahawks have acquired Adams from Jets in this past off-season blockbuster deal. Pro Bowl Safety said on Friday he didn’t want to play Sunday against himself, but he said setting an NFL record against his previous club would be “sweet”.
Adams, who now has a 20 1/2 sack in his career, ended up with five tackles, one sack, and a tackle for his defeat against Jets.
