Russia reports 52 people killed in Siberian coal-seam fire

A Russian news agency said a fire in a Siberian coal mine killed 52 miners and rescuers.

Authorities previously said rescue teams had found 14 bodies and the search for 38 missing persons was suspended for safety reasons due to the accumulation of explosive methane gas and high levels of toxic gas from the fire.

The state’s Tas and RIA-Novosti news agencies quoted emergency authorities as saying they were unlikely to find survivors.

Interfax news agency quoted a representative of the local government who killed 52 people in the fire on Thursday.
