Robbers carry taxi drivers and steal cash at Greenwich Village: Cops

Police are looking for a scammer who took a yellow taxi driver on board from Midtown to Greenwich Village and robbed him on Sunday afternoon.
According to law enforcement sources, the trouble began around 1 pm on December 13, when a 51-year-old male driver picked up a suspect on the corner of West 44th and 9th Avenues. The perpetrator asked Caby to drop him on the corner of East 13th Street and University Place near Union Square.
Upon arriving at the location, the criminal suddenly changed his mind and asked the driver to take him to the corner of West 14th Street and 7th Avenue, police said.
When they arrived there, authorities told the driver that the suspect had to run to a nearby location to get money from his friends. Police then said he left the taxi and ran inside a convenience store on the 200 West 14th St.
However, when the suspect did not return to the taxi a few minutes later, police said the taxi driver went into the store in search of a man. He found the suspect, and both men then returned to the taxi.
After they returned into the taxi, the robber made his move to the driver — demanding his cash while showing an unknown black object from his left pants pocket. According to police, the victim handed $ 80 in cash to the perpetrator upon request. The perpetrator received the money and ran out of taxis bound north along 7th Avenue.
The incident was reported to District 6The driver was not injured.
On Monday morning, the NYPD went to 200 West 14th St just before the taxi driver was robbed. The image of the thief taken from the inside of is released. He is described as a man with a height of 5 feet, a height of 9 inches, a weight of about 200 pounds, a medium physique, a light complexion, and gray hair.
Police officers said he was last seen wearing a blue face mask, a black leather jacket, light blue jeans, and white sneakers.
