Raised $ 100,000 under the same name as Arlo Guthrie’s “Alice’s Restaurant”

Former chef Arlo Guthrie has donated more than $ 100,000 to help former chef Alice’s Restaurant, an artist who has gained timeless fame in Alice’s Restaurant Massacre.

Nearly 2,000 people have pitched to GoFundMe in the last two months for 80-year-old hippies who have had a difficult time since Guthrie’s 18-minute Talking Blues Ballad was released in 1967.

“That was amazing. God, how relieved,” Brock told the post Thursday about the flood of support.

A Brooklyn-born woman’s home in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, the former cafeteria was the setting for Guthrie’s song about how a singer was arrested at Thanksgiving in 1965 during the Vietnam War and kept away from the military.

“You can get whatever you want at Alice’s restaurant,” the ballad begins.

In 1969, a comedy movie based on “Alice’s Restaurant” was released, and Brock, who did not want to play on the big screen, participated as an extra.

“People used to say,’Oh, my mother knows who you are,’ but now she says,’My grandmother knows who you are.’ ..

After flicking to close the diner, according to Boston radio WBUR-FM, Brock opened a large restaurant in Avalok in 1976 called Alice and continued to give back to the community.

“There’s very little I don’t give people, so if someone asks me for a job, I give them a job-and especially if they really need a job-people on parole and rent. Like people who don’t have it, “she told the station in a recent interview.

When the restaurant went bankrupt in the late 1970s, Brock moved to Provincetown, working as a cook at night and pursuing her art during the day.

But as cash ran out, she struggled to pay her mortgage and eventually had to sell her house and move with her later deceased friend, the outlet reported.

Brock found a rental property about two years ago, but was subsequently hospitalized for heart disease. She also suffers from lung condition, emphysema and tremors in her hands, which now she cannot draw.

After spending a year in the hospital and nursing home, Brock returned to the cottage but needed help to pay the rent.

Her fellow Dini Lamot, a member of Boston’s new wave band Human Sexual Response in the 1970s and 1980s, intervened to create an online fundraiser that raised $ 105,275 out of the $ 120,000 goal as of Thursday. It’s time.

“With the money I’ve collected, I’ll be able to live well for the next few years,” Brock told Post.

According to a reluctant legend, she was embarrassed by her friend’s GoFundMe project, but was “humility” in support from her friends and fans.

“I’m happy that people feel that way about me, but some of it goes beyond that,” she said.
