The mayor of Philadelphia has condemned Sunday’s shooting, which police said had injured nine people hours earlier.
Shortly before 11pm on Saturday, gunmen fired at least 40 shots into a crowd in the city’s Kensington neighborhood, leaving four men in critical condition, police said.
Five other victims—four men and one woman—are in stable condition after the incident, which Mayor Jim Kenny has denounced as “heinous.”
Kenny tweeted on Sunday, “I am appalled and devastated by this cowardly and brazen act of gun violence. My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of the injured, and to all those affected by this tragedy.” I am with the people.”
Police have not released a motive for the shooting and have not announced any arrests. Officials say the shooters arrived by car.
