Packers Davante Adams joins COVID-19 Reserve

Green Bay, Wisconsin — The Green Bay Packers would have to face the undefeated Arizona Cardinals without 2020 all-pro receiver Davante Adams and defense coordinator Joe Barry.

General Manager Brian Gutkanst announced Monday afternoon that the team has added Adams to the Reserve / COVID-19 list. The announcement was just over an hour after Director Matt Raffleer confirmed that Barry’s test was positive.

LaFleur said Barry was fully vaccinated and could be able to join the Packers (6-1) in a Thursday night match if he tested negative on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“But I’m not going to hold my breath on it,” La Fleur said.

LaFleur told reporters before the announcement about Adams, who was second (73) in the NFL catch and third (744) in the yard. “There may be other problems with the staff,” he said.

The Reserve / COVID-19 list is intended for players who test positive or are in close contact with an infected person.

LaFleur said the packers have adopted an advanced protocol and have virtually held all coach meetings on Monday. LaFleur said all team personnel must wear masks while in the building, whether or not they are vaccinated.

Packers are working through an assistant who is responsible for calling defensive play on Thursday if Barry is not available. One of the candidates could be Jerry Gray, a defensive back coach who has been the defensive coordinator for Buffalo Bills (2001-05) and Tennessee Titans (2011-13).

“No matter how we do it, I think it will be a collaborative effort with everyone involved,” La Fleur said. “But sure, you’re confident in a guy like Jerry. He’s called it before and has the top five defenses in this league, so we’re definitely sure. Some people feel they can get the job done. “
