One dead in shooting at Rhodes State University near Oklahoma City

Someone opened fire at Rhodes State University near Oklahoma City, killing one person, local officials and witnesses said. The suspect was arrested.

The incident began shortly after noon on Monday when the University of Midwest City issued an emergency alert, warning students of an “active shooter” on campus, in or near the Humanities Building.

Witnesses reported hearing at least six gunshots. Officers arrived at the scene and quickly located the suspect. The suspect was reportedly held at gunpoint before being taken into custody.

Midwest City Police later confirmed one person was killed in the shooting and confirmed the situation was now under control. The victims’ identities, or possible motives, were not immediately known.

In an update for 12:45 p.m., Rose State University said, “The shooter is in custody and police are at the scene.”
