NYC Panama festival host shot dead in Brooklyn

A man was shot dead in a crowd during a Panama Independence Day parade and festival in Brooklyn Friday night, police said.

The victim was walking down Albemarle Road near Bedford Avenue in Flatbush around 10:40 pm, holding a bottle of Hennessy and waving a small Panamanian flag.

Someone then approached the man, shot him in the back of the head, and walked away.

A 40-year-old man was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital, officers said. His identity was not immediately revealed.

Officers found a weapon at the scene, police said.

The festival commemorates the liberation of Panama from Colombia in November 1903.
