Number of US drilling rigs in operation this week drops slightly

HOUSTON, Feb. 17 (Xinhua News Agency) — The number of active drilling rigs in the U.S. stood at 760 this week, down one from the previous week, according to weekly data released Friday by Xinhua News Agency. These active drilling rigs included 607 oil rigs operating in U.S. fields, down two from the previous week and 151 gas drilling rigs, up one from last week and two. The other rigs are the same as last week.

The rigs included 741 onshore drilling rigs, 2 inland drilling rigs and 17 offshore drilling rigs.

Of the rigs in operation, 42 are directional rigs, 700 are horizontal rigs and 18 are vertical rigs.

So far, the Permian Basin in western Texas and eastern New Mexico has been the engine of supply growth outside the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries for the past few years, making it the largest source of shale oil production growth in the United States. .
