The 24-year-old midfielder could end up in New York once he sorts out his loan payments.

SunSport recently reported O’Brien wants to quit Forest and join an American club.

The former Huddersfield star was left out of Nottingham’s Prem squad after his manager ruled out a loan move to Blackburn Rovers in January. EFLMore despite the appeal.

It was ruled that Rover had failed to file the relevant documents by the UK transfer deadline of 11pm.

The EFL subsequently denied any mitigating factors as to why the documents were delayed.

Steve Cooper‘s side could fund O’Brien’s temporary switch heavily, with the American market still open.

However, this includes hurdles as many clubs assign foreign players.

The versatile midfielder joined Forest when Huddersfield last summer.

After starting the first five prem matches for his new team this season, O’Brien has been finding it increasingly difficult to act.

The only time he made a start was in a 4-0 loss to Leicester on 3 October when he went crazy at half-time.

O’Brien has made 17 appearances in all competitions with Forest, scoring one goal in total.
