New York (CBSNewYork) – New York’s Eviction Moratorium expires on Saturday.
They requested Governor Kathy Hochul The deadline will be extended to June.
Municipal inspector Jumaan WilliamsRunning for governor, stood with the demonstrators and asked for more work.
“If you allow perhaps hundreds of thousands of people to be driven homeless or surge in the winter, you’re affecting the safety of all New Yorkers,” Williams said.
The group representing the landlord says they are sympathetic, but they need money to pay to stay running.
“It’s time for rent-paying tenants to start paying rent. I understand that there are still tenants affected by the pandemic, but measures are being taken to protect those tenants.” Said Vito Signorile of the Rental Stabilization Association.
As the moratorium expires, the state Rent relief portal, This can slow down the procedure for eviction of peasants, but the state needs more federal funding to save the renters.
