New York (WABC) — Tornado warnings were issued for Nassau, Putnam and Westchester counties on Sunday as severe thunderstorms and flash floods threaten the region.
Meteorologist Dani Bextrom said localized heavy rains are reaching the area and could continue into the evening.
An AccuWeather alert has been issued. The Tri-State area is also under flood watch until Sunday evening.
Expect 1 to 3 inches of rain, with isolated areas likely to receive 3 to 5 inches. Hail and strong winds are also possible.
Drivers should never drive on flooded roads.
Severe storms and flooding near Philadelphia on Saturday left four people dead and four missing. The storm continued into Sunday, with tornado warnings in place for Philadelphia and Montgomery County.
The storm came as several communities in Orange and Rockland counties continued to recover from flooding that occurred. almost a week ago.
In New Jersey, recovery efforts are underway in parts of Hudson County after Friday night’s storm. Residents are also threatened by more rain.
