NBC modifies NFL crew and abandons Thanksgiving tradition

Catherine Tappen will make her debut in the NFL on Sunday night, and NBC will shuffle the broadcast team in two games this week.

Raised in Morristown, NJ, and cross-country in Rutgers, Tappen joins Mike Tillico and Tony Dungee in Green Bay for a Packers Bears match. The three make up the crew of Notre Dame Broadcasting.

Tappen has NFL experience as he has covered the Patriots in Boston for seven years. She has also worked at NBC’s NFL pre-game show as a reporter, including two Super Bowls.

In the undefeated Steelers-Ravens Thanksgiving night game, Tirico teams up with Cris Collinsworth as Al Michaels is off this week. Michele Tafoya will be on the sidelines on Thursday night.

With Tirico in both game booths, Liam McHugh will be hosting “Football Night in America” with Jack Collinsworth in the game on Sunday. For Thanksgiving, Tirico, Cris Collinsworth, and Tafoya handle half-time and game action without a pre-game.

Normally, NBC distributes turkey legs to game stars, but the pandemic has suspended the tradition that John Madden started a few years ago. Instead, Tafoya will lead the presentation of the less-tasty, but probably prestigious turkey leg trophy.
