Microsoft cuts money on politicians denying U.S. voting results

  • Microsoft says it has temporarily suspended donations to politicians who supported efforts to overturn President Joe Biden’s victory.
  • Donations from these members will be withheld throughout the 2022 election cycle.
  • The suspension came after a deadly attack on the US Capitol by supporters of former President Donald Trump last month.

Microsoft said on Friday that it would temporarily suspend donations to politicians who voted against proof of US election results or supported efforts to overturn President Joe Biden’s victory.

According to Corporate Vice President Fred Humphreys, donations from employees, shareholders and families guided through the voluntary PAC of Microsoft Corporation stakeholders will be withheld from these members throughout the 2022 election cycle.

He added that the political action committee will create a democracy advance initiative to support campaign finance reform and voting rights.

“Given the importance of these issues to the stability and future of American democracy, we believe these steps are appropriate,” Humphreys said in a blog post.

The PAC stopped political contributions last month after a deadly attack on the US Capitol by supporters of former President Donald Trump.

In his second unprecedented impeachment trial, Trump was accused of inciting supporters’ attacks on the US Congress, forcing him to suspend procedures to prove Biden’s victory in the November presidential election. I am.

The January 6 violence continues to echo in Washington. Prosecutors have charged about 180 people in the attack and hundreds more are under investigation, according to a tally of the George Washington University extremism program.

The Justice Department has suggested that it could file a sedition conspiracy proceeding by a far-right group supporting Trump in the attack.

At a White House rally shortly before the attack, Trump rejected the election results and urged his supporters to “fight like hell.”

According to Humphreys, Microsoft PAC has suspended all donations to Congressmen who voted against the certification of election results.

More than 3,000 Microsoft employees have donated to PAC, and Humphreys said the move was due to feedback gathered from many of them at the video conference.

“While these steps are important, we recognize that they are too many or too few for some employees,” Humphreys said.

“I had some other good ideas that came from a recent meeting. I will continue to consider other ways to enhance MSVPAC.”
