Washington — Marcus Stroman is away from the Mets after his grandmother’s death, but expects to play the Yankees on Saturday.
Mets put Straumann on the bereavement list on Monday, the day after he pitched three innings for the team that lost to the Phillies. A right-handed player who stays away from the team until at least Thursday has been replaced by Shawn Reed Folly, who arrived from Triple A Syracuse.
Straumann’s grandmother died last week, but the pitcher made a normal turn in rotation.
Before the Mets played against the Nationals, manager Luis Rojas said, “He’s in northern New York with his family. He can do some things while he’s away and is just crispy. “.
Rojas added that Straumann could throw a side session on Thursday, allowing him to pitch at Yankee Stadium two days later.
Tylor Megill, David Peterson and Jacob DeGrom have been tuned to face the Braves in this week’s planned rotation of the Mets. Taijuan Walker, Straumann, and either Megil or Jerad Eickhoff will start in a row in the Subway Series. This arrangement allows Walker to rest for another two days. He should have been able to play the Braves on Wednesday.
Brandon Nimmo will not rejoin the Mets on Tuesday, as the team originally wanted. According to Rojas, Nemo will stay in Triple A Syracuse for the next few days on a rehab mission and will receive additional at-bats before returning to Mets over the weekend.
Lojas said he had no physical concerns about Nemo’s left hand, but he still needed to “tune in” to the swing. Nemo is rehabilitating from an injury to the ligament of his left hand. He was put on the injured list on May 2nd.
Michael Conforto was absent from the starting lineup to give him a full day’s vacation for the first time since returning from Illinois last week. Rojas said the humidity and facts that Confort had missed for over a month after straining the right hamstring decided to rest him.
Edwin Diaz started playing in the 44-inning homeless streak, the longest and most active stretch in Major League Baseball. In the last 16 appearances, Diaz pitched to 1.76 ERA with 22 strikeouts and 5 walks, converting 11 out of 12 saves.
