Man accused of death of music icon wife Jacqueline Avant | National News

Beverly Hills, CA (AP) —Prosecutors charged a 29-year-old man at his home in Beverly Hills on Monday in a deadly shooting by philanthropist Jacqueline Avant, wife of legendary music executive Clarence Avant.

Mayor Ariel was also charged with attempted murder of an Avants guard who was allegedly shot during a robbery on December 1, but was not injured.

The mayor’s prosecution is scheduled for Tuesday. It was not immediately clear if there was a lawyer who could speak for him.

“Mrs. Avant was an important member of our community. Her generosity and goodwill have influenced many,” District Attorney George Gascon said in a news release.

The mayor is also charged with one count of felony with a firearm (a pistol with a long barrel of assault) and two counts of burglary with people. He had previously been convicted of felony for assault, robbery and massive theft and was released on parole at the time of the shooting.

Police were called to Avants’ house on December 1 after a call at 2:23 am reporting the shooting. Police officers found Jacqueline Avant, 81, who had a gunshot wound. She was taken to the hospital but did not survive.

An hour later, a Los Angeles Police Department officer was called to the Hollywood Hills home to report the shooting. It is about 7 miles (11.27 km) from Avant House. They found evidence of robbery there with the mayor and his house and detained him.
