Long Brunch cancels fireworks on July 4th at a beach party crowded with out-of-town people

Long Branch, NJ (WABC)-Long Branch announced last weekend that it will postpone the fireworks on July 4th this year due to a large beach party crowded with out-of-town people.

The party made a big police presence in Peer Village with videos appearing everywhere on social media.

“It was pretty busy, a little scary,” said an attendee named Tyler. “But I think it was a good time to be with everyone.”

Officials say such pop-up parties are announced online and have religious supporters.

“Everyone just wanted to get involved,” said an attendee named Lance. “It was hard to control because everyone wanted to have fun. There are so many people that no one will be kicked out.”

Public Safety Director Domingos Sardida decided to unplug at the fireworks on July 4, after consulting with state and county police authorities, for the best interests of residents and businesses.

“Logistics within Peer Village was largely unmanageable due to pedestrian traffic and vehicles in the area,” he said. “That’s why we had to make that decision, at which point we closed Peer Village.”

Announcements on future dates for fireworks will be made later this summer.

Sardida said social media posts about other pop-up parties at Pier Village and Point Pleasant Beach on holiday weekends have always made the safety and security of the inhabitants a top priority.

“Plans are done daily and Intel is done every day, so we will work towards the future to prevent these events from happening,” says Sardida.

Law enforcement officials say they are working harder to stay ahead of the pop-up party frenzy that thousands of people come down to one place and sometimes cause too much confusion.
