“Landscaper” sees Olivia Colman seghe from Queen Elizabeth to the murderer

Much is happening in “Landscapers”. It sets up a real-life double murder in Britain against the backdrop of a whimsical comedy of both light and darkness offset by a fantastic sequence.

If it sounds surreal, it is — but the “Landscaper” starring Olivia Colman (“Crown”) and David Thewlis (“Fargo”) does it.

The four-part HBO series Married couple Susan and Chris Edwards (Colman and Thewlis) were sentenced to 25 years in prison for murdering Susan’s parents in 1998 and burying them in Nottingham’s backyard in 2014. Of course, there’s much more in the story — the shadows of dark family secrets and doubts cast all over — and writer Ed Sinkrea and director Will Sharpe always help the trusted Colman and Thewlis. Borrowing and doing a great job of telling a story through clever narrative elements.

The series will start in Paris in 2013. There, Susan and Chris are now alive and trying to overcome more than love for each other. Difficult; Susan is an emotionally fragile and enthusiastic movie fan, a big fan of Gary Cooper (“High Noon” goes through the story in many ways) and Gerard Depardieu (complex). She speaks fluent French and her thoughts are often conveyed to us as if it were a black-and-white movie scene.

Chris, on the other hand, hasn’t learned French and is having a hard time finding a job. When he recalls his stepmother, Tabisa, to England and borrows money, he spills a big “secret” and swears to her silence. However, she notified Nottingham police to excavate the bodies of Susan’s parents William and Patricia Witchary and bury them behind them. House. Investigating the murder began, Susan and Chris wrote two “polite” emails to the police to face the music, and after repeating the mantra of “sticking to the plan” with each other, the UK Return to. They don’t, and in the end, a terrible family secret emerges, and when we learn more about Susan’s relationship with her parents, and with Chris, math just doesn’t add up.

“Landscapers” is a subtlety that Colman and Thewlis lend to Susan and Chris, not only their writing and directing, but also switching a common understanding of false romanticism, loyalty to each other, and what really happened. There’s a lot to recommend it for the shadows of 1998, highlighting the characters reading emails directly to the camera, the movie motifs of the series and Susan’s Hollywood, among other narrative quirks. Attachment that was offset by the scene in the scene to ping pong between the “real” and “artificial” places to do.
