Jennifer Jolorte D’Oro, Eileen Liu create Chiyo’s meal service for different stages of pregnancy and postpartum

New York — Two Asian American women in our area are using their roots to help mothers of all backgrounds.

During the pandemic, they started Chiyo, a meal service tailored to different stages of pregnancy and postpartum.

Baby Zion is 12 weeks old, as reported by CBS2’s Lisa Rozner. His mother, Justin Park, says he had many sleepless nights, but she provided nutritional and emotional support through her postpartum journey.

“I feel so much better than I expected,” Park said.

For months, Park and her husband purchased weekly meals from Chiyo, a meal delivery service founded by New Yorker Jennifer Jorote Doro and businessman Irene Liu. I’m here.

“My aunt had a baby and I saw her feeding traditional Chinese postnatal meals,” Liu said. “I started researching further and realized that many other ancient cultures had approaches to caring for women during this period.

Doro, a Filipino-American, used Eastern food therapy to prepare meals for women trying to conceive and postpartum women.

They founded their startup in 2020 and now ship nationwide from their kitchen in Kearney, NJ. Helen Cabot-Goldman is Chief Operating Officer.

“Every ingredient Chiyo uses has a purpose,” says Cabot-Goldman. Keep it low sugar.”

Meals come with garnishes such as goji berries, which the founder says are packed with antioxidants.

Ms. Park is Korean-American and her husband is Chinese-American. Her diet incorporates ingredients used by her mother and Western nutrition, she says.

“They make wakame soup. In Korean culture, the main food eaten after giving birth is wakame soup. said. .

The recovery our founders hope for will become easier for all as we bring new life to the world.

The food has many Asian elements, but the customer base is only 25% Asian-American, according to the founder.

Food costs around $400-500 a week, depending on location.
