Islandia’s NY Bagel Company launches a campaign to help provide food to people in need

Islandia, Long Island-Long Island Deli has launched a campaign that brings a lot of kindness to the community.

It’s a typical New York bagel shop. As far as you can see, there is almost everything, including walls filled with brown paper bags.

“Now we have a lot of bags, so we started putting them in the front window,” said Judy Murphy, co-owner of NY Bagel Company.

Simple yet powerful.

“For those in need, $ 5 for everything in the store,” Judy said.

It all started after Judy and her son-in-law, Chris, came up with the idea of a family-owned deli on Long Island.

“Many people were in trouble, so four or five years ago, I launched a bag I made, like an egg sandwich or a small coffee, on the wall,” Murphy said.

At first it was only 10, but then customers joined.

“People will pay us $ 100 and give us $ 80 to hang on the wall, which is amazing,” Murphy said.

She tells Eyewitness News that there are no questions for people who sometimes need additional boosts.

“We’ve welcomed people who put their bags on the wall when they’re off the wall and in a better place,” she said.

Witness News reporter Kenbury Richardson elaborated on how she covered the story.

“A few weeks ago, when we were talking about another story in town, we stopped grabbing food and saw this, and I knew I needed to spread the word and play my part. “It was,” said Richardson.

“She saw it and grabbed it,” she said, “I’m going to catch her, maybe they can help spread the word there,” Murphy said. ..

And just like that, the Nator family arrived.

“He loves bagels and coffee,” said Angel Nator.

For his recently deceased father, Angel Nater Sr., this was a way to honor him.

So swing at Islandia’s NY Bagel Company. A place where giving and receiving are closely related.
