I watch elves every night – I spent the day in New York dressed up as Buddy and was amazed at how people reacted.

Watch the elves with your family on Thanksgiving and prepare for the holiday season every night until Christmas. I know the most wonderful time of the year is approaching.
And this year, I took it one step further.
In the iconic 2003 Christmas comedy, Will Ferrell stars as Buddy, a human raised by Santa’s elves at the North Pole after sneaking into a gift bag as a baby in an orphanage.
Years later, Buddy realizes he’s not like the other Arctic elves, and his adoptive father, Papa Elf (played by comedy legend Bob Newhart), reveals his New York City origins.
It turns out that Buddy’s biological father, Walter Hobbs (played by James Caan), didn’t even know he existed.
As luck would have it, he’s still alive and working in the Empire State Building, but he’s on the naughty list.
So Buddy travels all the way to the Big Apple to meet Walter and spread the Christmas cheer.
And in the process, he gets to experience Christmas time in New York City like only elves can.
The elves are famous for scenes filmed here in the heart of the world’s largest city.
I decided to dress up as Buddy the Elf and fly around town just like him, recreating scenes and chatting with locals and tourists.
As a Christmas guru and elf fanatic, you really made the Christmas season feel alive.
Some people liked interacting with me, some unfortunately didn’t.
Anyone who doesn’t must be on Santa’s naughty list, like Walter Hobbs.
Some didn’t even know what an Elf was!
The response has been priceless.
As Buddy says, “The best way to spread the Christmas cheer is to sing out loud for everyone to hear.”
that’s what i did. I do what my buddy does.
Specially recreated scenes shot in different locations.
In the movie, Buddy is overjoyed as he passes by a coffee shop that claims to serve the best coffee in the world.
In real life, the coffee shop was a fish restaurant in Vancouver, Canada.
But I still had to do it because my buddy is doing it.
So I improvised.
I stumbled across Dunkin’ Donuts and exclaimed, “Congratulations!” You made it! Best coffee in the world. yes! ‘ -Where Buddy goes, I go.
Employees were puzzled. But when they realized what was going on, they burst into laughter.
I also bought a snow globe as a souvenir for myself.
It wasn’t your average snow globe, it was the Empire State Building snow globe. The same one Papa Elf gave Buddy just before he left for New York to see his father.
After Buddy first introduces himself to Walter as his missing son, Walter takes Buddy to the doctor to complete a DNA test just in case.
So I had my Walter take me to the doctor as well.
But Buddy can’t help himself. He sees a cotton ball on the table and must taste it. So he tried it himself.
I even managed to play Buddy’s tricks after a grumpy Walter told him to stop.
Speaking of eating, of course, I sampled Buddy’s breakfast myself!
Buddy grew up in the Arctic, so he only eats sweet treats with lots of maple syrup. So his breakfast is a little… weird.
The recipe calls for:
- Spaghetti for 1 person
- Red and green M&M’s
- mini marshmallows
- rainbow sprinkles
- chocolate syrup
- Maple syrup
- 1 chocolate fudge pop tart
I had to play the role and couldn’t get out of my character. But the food was exactly what I expected: SO GROSS!
Still, I have to say it was a 10/10 day overall.

If you’re a Christmas guru and elf fanatic like me, I highly recommend trying this one.
Remember to sing out loud so everyone can hear you!
