I live on the smallest inhabited island on Earth – it is only slightly larger than a tennis court but ‘just enough room’

A TINY home nestled between the US and Canada has made history for being the smallest inhabited island on Earth.

The small plot of land located in Alexandria Bay, New York, is just slightly larger than a tennis court, earning it the title of Just Enough Room Island.

Also known as Hub Island, the historic site barely holds a tree, two shrubs, and a home on 3,300 square feet of ground.

It’s part of the Thousand Islands in Alexandria Bay, which is actually a collection of 1,864 dotting the St. Lawrence River.

Many of the islands are so small, they can only host a single tree planted by its owner.

Hub isn’t that much bigger, but its beautifully remote location made it the perfect spot to host a vacation home for the Sizeland family in 1950.

Now, decades later, it still stands strong but has grown in popularity as visitors board boats to float out and get a closer look.

“The speck of land squeezes a house and a couple of wrought-iron benches pushed hard up against the shingles onto its banks,” the Washington Post reported in 2010.

“One misstep and you’re swimming.”

Though the home was built in the 1950s, it didn’t earn the title of smallest inhabited island until 1982 when the lighthouse at Bishop Rock became automated.

Travelers should note that Just Enough Room Island is private property, so you can look but don’t touch it.

Alexandria Bay is a village in Jefferson County, New York, that was settled around 1817.

Another historic landmark in the town is Boldt Castle which was originally built as a private mansion for American millionaire George Boldt in 1900.

It has since been opened to the public and features six stories of beautiful architecture, interior design, a bowling alley, and an indoor swimming grotto.

The strange island comes as another unique private home has been built on an island off the coast of Nova Scotia.

The island boasts a diverse ecosystem of dense forests and all of the homes are made with 3D printed materials.

Vollebak Island is described as “an oasis and plan for the planet,” as it “intersects the worlds of architecture, design, and art.”

The main building is called Earth House, which features nine interconnected buildings.

They include thatched roofs and a dining room, and utilize 3D printing to create boulder-like features.

A stone Japanese-style bath house has both interior and outdoor tubs cut from bedrock.

A semi-underground stargazing room allows the owner to take in the surrounding nature and gorgeous night skies.

And, the island is self-sufficient – a greenhouse constructed of glass bricks allows the island to grow everything needed.

Vollebak Island is located off the Nova Scotia mainland, a quarter of a mile from the Jeddore Harbour and 50 minutes drive from Halifax International Airport.

Another structure deemed the world’s loneliest house is stuck on the side of a remote mountain range and has been vacant for 100 years.

It was built in the 1950s as a vacation home, but now is the source of worldwide speculation
