How singer Patty Smyth spends Sunday

Patty Smyth, the lead singer of the scandal’s husky voice known for the 1984 patriotic song “The Warrior,” is the first solo album in 28 years to know that a pandemic will last so long. Would not have been issued. “People ask me,” she said, “and I do, do you think this is the one I chose?”

Promoting the record “It’s About Time” wasn’t easy because much of the music industry was closed, but Smith from Brooklyn is doing his best. For example, this month, shortly after the presidential election, she joined Jimmy Fallon to play the 80’s scandal hit “Goodbye to You.”

Smith, 63, spends time between Malibu, California and Manhattan’s Upper West Side, where he lives with another 80’s warrior, former tennis champion (and current ESPN commentator) John. I’m splitting. McEnroe.

Rock star time The reason I entered this business is that I don’t have to get up early in the morning. When I open my eyes, I see John asking, “Are you out of bed?” There is a terrace where you can go outside and I like its loneliness. Leaves fall from the tree and you can hear the voices of people and dogs.

What day is it today? Previously, there was a ritual to meet a girlfriend living in the Upper East Side in a reservoir in Central Park, taking a long walk of 5 or 6 miles. But now there is no routine, that’s the truth. I think what happened is that no one knows what day it was. It all feels the same on Tuesdays and Sundays. I’m like being at home. Currently, my 21-year-old daughter is at home with us from school. If she has no friends, she may take me to lunch. It’s okay to eat out on the sidewalk, but the bus is roaring, which is a kind of nervousness. I want to be cool, but it’s not.

Secret sauce We have been at our home in California for a long time. My husband didn’t leave for about 6 or 7 months. It was the longest time he hadn’t been on a plane since he was 16 or 17. Now he is here with me. If you want to get married, I think you should do it together. That is the secret sauce. “Absence caresses the heart, but there are too many to wander.” Also, it feels strange not to be together. I’ve been in Nashville for a week and now I’m working on some issues and thinking about when to return to California.

Virtual tour I did a lot of zoom interviews and some small zoom shows at my house. Staying focused is strangely challenging. In LA, I was used to doing it in the same place and it wasn’t a big deal. It’s hard to do it here as I have more personal space. I also did a lot of podcasts. I keep calling them iPods, which is ridiculous.

Raise John got much better with the quarantine guitar. He has spent a lot of time practicing. Practice makes everyone better. We’re playing more at home together, and if he’s in the area when I’m doing a show, he’ll come out and play some songs. He is a music encyclopedia. It’s good for me that he loves music so much. My kids also attract me to music. They go everywhere from Kacey Musgraves to Cardi B and Rizzo. When they are at home, I try to throw music and remember to dance around the room.

Today’s order As far as I can remember, I’ve seen “60 Minutes”. Sunday night is “60 minutes” and Chinese food. I like Red Farm. There are different types of dumplings and crazy pastrami egg rolls, bacon and egg fried rice. John doesn’t eat it, but I do. He is much healthier than I am.

processing Sunday is a difficult day in a sense. They’re not bad, they just stir things up for me. I think a lot. I recall and reflect on it. That makes me want to write, and that’s a good thing.
