Honda recalls 500,000 vehicles in US and Canada for front seatbelt latch issue

Honda has issued recalls for approximately 500,000 vehicles in the United States and approximately 52,000 vehicles in Canada due to possible front seat belt malfunctions. The recall affects some of Honda’s best-selling models, including the 2017-2020 CR-V, 2018-2019 Accord, 2018-2020 Odyssey and 2019 Insight. Additionally, the 2019-2020 Acura RDX is included in the recall.

Honda says the surface coating on the seat belt buckle channel can degrade over time. As a result, the release button may contract against the channel at low temperatures, increasing friction and preventing the buckle from being securely fastened. This problem poses a danger to occupants who are not properly restrained in the event of an accident, increasing the chance of injury.

The automaker has not received any reports of injuries related to the issue. Your dealer will replace the front seat belt buckle release button or the entire buckle assembly as needed. After April 17th, vehicle owners will be notified by email.
