GRIDLOCK SAM: Traveling out of town is down, but local roads may be clogged

Friday, before Thanksgiving, is one of the biggest holidays of the season. This year, travel has dropped significantly, but traffic hasn’t. Flight is cut in half, rail and bus travel is halved, but car traffic is reduced by only about 5%. This is because some of the previous leaflets, railroad companies, and bus riders get in the car. And if yesterday’s rush hour is a predictor, it’s not clean on the highway this afternoon. Hotspots such as Henry Hudson, FDR, LIE, Grand Central, GW Bridge and Cross Bronx will start jamming around 3pm. Belt and Vanwick traffic by JFK is also increasing as airlines step up their flights for vacations.
