Fox Sports apologized on Sunday after the graphics department overlaid images of the Yankees and Red Sox logos on the 9/11 commemorative reflective pool during Saturday’s “American Baseball Night” broadcast. ..
When the broadcast entered a commercial break six times at Yankee Stadium, the image was shown in an aerial shot of the location in front of the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers.
A Fox Sports spokesman said in a statement, “Last night’s television broadcast made inadequate decisions about the use of graphics.”
“We sincerely apologize for this decision.”
The names of 2,753 victims of both deadly attacks on the World Trade Center are engraved around a reflex pool honoring those killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. The pool is built into the footprints of the fallen North Tower and South Tower.
The clinge-worthy move has been criticized on social media.
“I just have a bad idea, a totally terrible idea. Then there’s something Fox Sports’ graphics department came up with for the Red Sox Yankees, superimposing the team’s logo on the previous Twin Towers site.” Written by a Twitter user..
“Can someone tell Fox Sports not to do this again? Beyond the attack” Written by another person..
The Yankees defeated Boston’s rivals 14 to 1.
