Foo Fighters at the first MSG show since COVID

In times like this, you certainly learn to live again.

It was the sound and rejuvenation spirit of a live music experience that revived with the Foo Fighters at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night. Yes, on Father’s Day night, all arena grandpas have held their first concert since COVID closed the party in March 2020.

And after setting the mood for the cold Sunday sounds of the Commodores “Easy” to go on stage, the hard-locking Foo Fighters are probably wasting time launching their most famous song, “Times Like.” These “did not usually should have been saved at the end of the show. At the end of the song, Fu frontman Dave Grohl triumphantly raised his right arm as the roar of luggage roared across the yard.

At that moment, I didn’t need words from Groll or anyone else. It was all of that roar and co-release that had been waiting for the concert attendees to come back together for fifteen months.

Groll doesn’t want to waste a minute when he and his band are finally able to play for a live audience, and the Foo Fighters go straight from “Times Like This” to “The Pretender.” I kept going.

And finally, the resurrected Groll said: We were waiting for rock and roll. .. .. Want to rock and roll? After asking the latter question three times, the collective “yes” got bigger and bigger. Foos and his enthusiastic fans threatened to strip the roof from the garden only once.

The last time MSG was upset by something was when Brothers (including a longtime member of the Allman Brothers Band) celebrated ABB’s music on March 10, 2020.

And this was a normal shock, but it was a completely different world than when concert attendees sang all songs with their fists on the stands. This time, I had to show evidence of vaccination. This was a requirement to attract anti-vax protesters outside the MSG, and some were still hidden inside.

However, the audience and staff went almost without masks. Still, hand sanitizer stations have undoubtedly been everywhere since Knicks and Rangers started playing with the crowd again in February.

And surely there were people (including you) who were worried about screaming in the face of a stranger without a mask over music.

Fans were already standing before Foos went on stage. “I’m excited. I bought a ticket today. Justin Stags, 18, in West Milford, NJ, rocked a navy blue Nirvana” Nevermind “shirt in honor of Groll’s ex-band. He said he was. “Someone stepped on my shoes in the hallway and they apologized. And I said,” No, step on my shoes! I haven’t been close to people for so long. “

The show was dedicated to Hus’s longtime stage manager Andy Polard, who died suddenly on Friday, as if the concert in the garden was back and the night wasn’t yet emotional enough. Polard was also attached to the MSG Jumbotron on Seventh Avenue.

But in the end, the joy of live music returning to the garden couldn’t be stolen. Pat B., an MSG usher who didn’t want to name it, best summarizes “rock and roll is back.”
