First Pfizer dose set to arrive in New York – CBS New York

New York (CBSNewYork) — It’s a milestone day in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

The first dose of the vaccine is delivered to the American arm.

The New York City Vaccine Management Center will also open in Lower Manhattan on Monday. This is described as air traffic control for vaccines and plays an important role in ensuring that everything runs smoothly.

The first shipment of Pfizer’s vaccine is expected to arrive in New York, and healthcare professionals may receive injections in less than hours. Two workers at Northwell Health, the state’s largest healthcare provider, will reportly be vaccinated during a press conference at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Queens.

Meanwhile, Mayor Bill de Blasio states that the vaccine will be distributed fairly and equitably.

“We are determined not to distribute this vaccine depending on who has the most wealth, privileges and celebrities in the city. We will distribute it depending on which community needs it most.” He said on Sunday.

The Empire State is waiting for 170,000 doses after shipping the Pfizer facility in Michigan on Sunday. Of these, 72,000 will be sent to the city.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is confident by April or May, and everyone in Garden will have access to the vaccine. New Jersey will be given its first dose on Tuesday.

“The first batch is 76,000. We split the majority into healthcare professionals, but it’s a good slug for caregivers and staff,” Murphy said. “Then, every next week, these are the two top priorities. And, as you can imagine, it will take weeks to process both populations in these groups.”

Coronavirus pandemic

The Pfizer vaccine is expected to arrive at 145 distribution centers nationwide on Monday, with hundreds of other sites getting the vaccine on Tuesday and Wednesday. The company expects to ship 20 million times this month.
