Firefighters fight multi-alarm fire in an apartment in East Orange, NJ

East Orange, NJ (WABC)-A third fire broke all night in an apartment building in East Orange.

The fire broke out in an apartment on Prospect Street after 12:30 am on Friday.

The section collapsed as firefighters from Montclair, Cedar Grove, Newark, and East Orange fought the flames.

Residents have been evacuated and it is unknown if any are injured.

Witnesses described the chaotic scene.

“I saw people running up the street towards Prospect Street. They were like’Fire! There’s a fire behind the building!’,” Said one man. “And I went to the emergency stairs, and that was when I saw the building burning.”

There were initial reports that two firefighters were taken to a Newark university hospital for checkout.

East Orange Mayor Ted Greene arrived at the scene and was scheduled to comment on Friday morning.
