“I always feel safe to do it in Manhattan, but now it’s suspicious,” he said.
It was just after the darkness on Wednesday 36th between Broadway and Seventh Avenue. A man came to the driver’s window with a box cutter in his hand while a longtime Uber driver was waiting for passengers.
“He took it out and showed me. I pushed him back and he pushed it towards my neck. I leaned back and got out of the car and grabbed the phone. That phone, you can’t pick up your phone, “said the Uber driver.
The man then drove away.
Just 45 minutes ago, there was another carjacking block a few blocks north. Police body cameras captured a conflict between two police officers and a suspect who stole a car using a taser gun. The suspect took off with a sergeant in the passenger seat.
The suspect ran a car, pushed another car out of the way, hit all of its routes, and hit the median of 57th Avenue and Broadway before jumping into the subway.
The soldier who accompanied the ride was slightly injured.
Police believe that after the suspect gets on the subway, he goes to Pennsylvania Station, where he goes out to 36th Avenue and carjacks the Uber driver Infinity.
“I hope they catch people doing these things-that’s really sad,” said the Uber driver.
The driver has an invoice to pay, so he says he will return to the road on Friday with a large number of carjackers.
