Edmonds: Five New EVs to Wait in 2021

Electric vehicle shoppers have an increasing number of models to choose from. Currently, there are nearly 20 EVs on the market, and the choice will only increase in the next eight months. Here are five upcoming EVs organized by price that Edmonds experts are most excited to see in 2021.

2022 Chevrolet Volt EUV

As the name implies, the Bolt EUV is associated with Chevrolet’s existing Bolt Hatchback. Compared to bolts, it is longer, more SUV-like in shape, and provides a wider rear foot. You can also optionally select features not found in standard bolts, such as panoramic sunroofs and ventilated front seats.

Expect the Volt EUV to get a range of about 250 miles. Like regular bolts, it’s only front-wheel drive, with no all-wheel drive options. But it does offer General Motors Supercruise. This hands-off driving system allows vehicles to accelerate, brake and steer on highways and restricted access over 200,000 miles. The Volt EUV is the first non-Cadillac vehicle equipped with this system.

Release window: Summer 2021

Price: From $ 33,995

2022 HYUNDAI IONIQ 5

Today’s Hyundai Ioniq Electric serves as a gateway to Hyundai’s electronics, but automakers will soon apply its name to the line of sedans and crossover SUVs built on a dedicated EV platform. The first is the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5.

The Ioniq 5 is similar in size to the Honda CR-V, but has a shorter front end due to the lack of an engine. The extra length lies between the wheels, which should translate into a legroom comparable to that of a medium crossover. Other highlights include a wealth of technical features and an available dual motor powertrain suitable for approximately 300 horsepower and an estimated range of 250 miles.

Release window: Fall 2021

Estimated price: from about $ 38,000

2021 Rivian R1T

The first mass market electric pickup trucks come from Detroit-based startups, not from Ford, Chevrolet, or Tesla. In terms of size, the 2021 Rivian R1T sits between medium and full size trucks, but its functionality is similar to that found in the latter. Rivian says the R1T can tow up to £ 11,000, or slightly less than the Ram 1500 crew cab.

The specs of the R1T as an electric vehicle are also noteworthy. The first Launch Edition is fully loaded and, like all R1Ts, has an electric motor on each wheel. Together they produce a whopping 753 horsepower, unleashing the advertised 0-60 mph time in just 3 seconds. Under the floor is a large battery pack that Rivian says can offer a range of up to 300 miles.

Release window: Summer 2021

Price: From $ 75,000

2022 AUDI E-TRON GT

This sleek luxury sedan is Audi’s latest EV. Following the e-tron SUV that debuted a few years ago. The GT’s dual electric motors generate a total of 469 to 637 horsepower, depending on trim level and driving mode, and can sprint from stop to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds. To enhance the convenience of the plug-in, Audi states that the car has a range of up to 238 miles and has charging ports on both sides of the car.

Inside, the e-tron’s multiple display screens and angular surface give the cabin a futuristic feel. There are also environmentally friendly touches such as the recycled materials used for seat fabrics and interior trim. The result is a unique cabin that helps differentiate the e-tron GT from its underlying Porsche Taycan.

Release window: Summer 2021

Price: From $ 100,945

2022 GMC Hummer EV

General Motors aims to remove the image of the Hummer brand gas spouting by relaunching it as an electric pickup. However, the company is also reluctant to abandon Hummer’s off-road credibility, so when the 2022 GMC Hummer EV launches later this year, body raise air suspension, all-terrain tires, club walk mode, etc. Full of goods. This allows the vehicle to move diagonally from the stop.

The first top-spec Edition 1 model is the only Hummer EV we’ll see this year, and reservations are already full. The person who hooks the slot is treated as a truck with three motors (one in the front and two in the rear). The truck produces quite a ridiculous 1,000 horsepower and accelerates the truck from 0 mph to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. GMC estimates that the Hummer EV will offer a range of 350 miles.

Release window: Fall 2021

Price: $ 112,595

EDMUNDS SAYS: EV shoppers can choose from a wide variety of EVs. However, you can get a wider lineup by waiting until summer or autumn.
