Eden Torres, founder of Pride Portraits, shares a migration journey

Houston, Texas-Eden Torres has filmed thousands of people, from politicians to celebrities. She is the founder of Pride Portraits, the largest LGBTQIA visualization campaign to date.

She was used to being behind the lens, but Eden steps in front of the camera and shares her journey to find her true self. As a proud Trans Latina woman, she wants to empower people to be the best version of herself.

“One of the things Pride Portrait is trying to do now is to really honor transgender individuals and individuals of a wide range of genders in our community,” Eden said. “Since I came out as a transgender woman, it was of utmost importance to me because of the vast amount of knowledge our own community still needs about who we are. It’s very interesting to learn from each of the people, I not only take pictures of them, but also ask them, what do you want the world to know about you? “

Eden first launched a pride portrait after the Pulse Nightclub attacked in Orlando in 2016. She began taking pictures of people outside Houston’s Pride Wall and began collecting their stories. Five years later, she took pictures of 6,000 people as part of her pride portrait.
