Domingo German re-impresses on the long way back to the Yankees

Domingo German took a smaller step towards the Yankees on Tuesday.

The right-handed player made an impressive start twice in a row in the Dominican Winter League in Tros del Escog, defeating Leones del Escogido 3-2, scoring one run and three hits in five innings. The 28-year-old made his Dominican League debut last week with four no-hitters and seven hits.

But the encouraging performance of the Germans on the mound is not the biggest factor in returning to the Yankees. Germans were suspended due to domestic violence with their girlfriend in September 2019 and missed the entire 2020 season when the coronavirus was shortened.

“Hopefully he’ll bring himself back into the mix,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone told YES Network this week.

The decision ultimately belongs to the owner Hal Steinbrenner.

Steinbrenner concludes the Yankees season. “These two things are certain.”

The Germans were in the middle of the 2019 breakout season — 4.03 ERA at 18-4 — the Yankees pulled him off the team when a disturbing accusation began and the MLB investigation began.

While leaving the Yankees, the Germans were involved in a dune buggy accident in February and then posted on Instagram that they were “away” from baseball before backtracking.

If the Yankees give the Germans another chance, he will probably enter a rotation that is currently occupied only by Gerrit Cole and Jordan Montgomery.
