When Sravanti Balaji scheduled her December wedding in Mexico, she legally had to obtain a marriage license within 60 days of that date.

In September, she went online to schedule an appointment with the New York City clerk’s office.

“I had no plans for a few weeks. I would just keep refreshing between meetings at work,” Baraj said.

CBS2 discovered on Monday that license reservations were available about three weeks in advance, but the ceremony reservations are made for a week and there is no option to plan ahead.

City clerk Michael Maxweeney said the office could only handle a large number of people at one time due to COVID restrictions.

“We just patiently ask people, and we’ll do our best. Keep sending us emails explaining what the process is,” McSweeney said.

He also said the couple are searching elsewhere in the state as virtual appointments are being reduced to prevent bots from stealing or selling appointments.

“Usually we recommend Yonkers or Long Beach because the train is right there,” said Rev. Susanna Stephanki Macom.

Baraj asked his ordained friend Connor McCueen to perform the ritual.

“I’m going to be in New York for a while, and hopefully I have a few more friends who can help me get married,” McCueen said.

A couple wanted to get married on their wedding anniversary on November 6th, but that alone settled down on October 25th.

“It’s important because she’s actually my best friend with me. The date doesn’t matter. It’s important to be here and have this moment,” said Jamil Lawrence of Newark, NJ. ..

The clerk’s Twitter account warns followers about new appointments at 9am on Monday and Thursday, but the clerk told Rosner that he’s trying to reply to emails from people who are busy with time.
