Disney postpones test cruise after crew positive Covid test

Orlando, Florida: Walt Disney postponed test sailing on its first cruise after many crew members initially showed positive COVID-19 test results, but was later judged negative.

The vessel was scheduled for a two-night voyage departing on Tuesday as part of Disney’s plan to receive a conditional voyage certificate from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“We are postponing the simulation cruise due to the small number of inconsistent COVID-19 test results that are considered positive by the CDC,” the statement said. “The rigorous health and safety protocols we implement helped identify the situation, but the test results were ultimately negative.”

Disney Cruise Line has not disclosed when to start regular scheduled cruises.

Last weekend, the Royal Caribbean Group’s Celebrity Edge became the first ship to depart the United States from a major operator.

However, Royal Caribbean said two unvaccinated teenagers tested positive on the Adventure of the Sea vessel. The company said 92% of its guests were fully vaccinated.

Disney Cruise may change its test sailing schedule by July 18 after a federal judge has issued a preliminary injunction to the CDC to enforce a ban on cruises in Florida.
