Crime in NYC: NYPD shoots gunman who opened fire at party in Laurelton, Queens. 4 injured

Laurelton, Queens (WABC) — The NYPD engaged in a shootout with a group of suspects who opened fire on a house party in Queens late Friday.

Police said between 75 and 100 people attended the party at a house near 130th and 219th streets in Laurelton.

Plainclothes Violent Crime Squad members monitored the event in unmarked vehicles because they believed violence was likely.

At around 11:35 p.m., three gunmen got out of the car and began shooting near the party, police said, engaging the suspects.

“The whole group – they took out at least three guns and started firing near where the party that the detectives were watching was. Now there were about 75 to 100 people in this party.” Now you have a group, this group, this group of people who were partying, and the men opened fire,” Chief Jeffrey B. Madley said.

Four men aged 16, 17, 18 and 24 were shot dead.

The 18-year-old was taken to a hospital in Jamaica and said to be in critical condition.

Three people were detained by police.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
