Chelsea, Manhattan (WABC) — A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a police-involved shootout in Chelsea last week.
NYPD officers were caught in a shootout Friday morning while responding to a robbery in Chelsea.
Occurs at 2:50 a.m. near the intersection of West 21st Street and 6th Avenue.
A plainclothes cop in a NYPD windbreaker was working inside Club Dhoo when a bouncer told him a robbery was taking place in front of the club.
Police said 24-year-old Usman Haruna was one of several people who stole jewelry from someone standing outside the club.
When officers went outside and tried to intervene, police said the suspect opened fire on them.
The police returned fire. No one was attacked.
The two suspects fled in the last-seen silver Audi sedan, heading west on West 21st Street to Seventh Avenue.
The suspect was generally described as wearing a black hoodie.
Police found bullet cases outside the nightclub.
It happened in the same place where a man was shot and a police car was shot on July 18.
