COVID NY Update: More shots will occur with more New York weapons today as eligibility expands to over 60

New York (WABC)-Starting today, New Yorkers over the age of 60 are eligible for the coronavirus vaccine.

And starting next week, state workers who interact with the general public will be shot.

Almost 20 percent of New Yorkers are currently vaccinated at least once, and nearly 10 percent are fully vaccinated.

Governor Cuomo says the state-owned Javits Center in Manhattan was the country’s number one vaccination site on weekends. This is partly due to the fact that it is currently in operation 24 hours a day.

The state uses a Johnson & Johnson single vaccine allocation overnight.

The state currently administers more than 5.8 million doses.

Today, with the expansion to people over the age of 60, 10 million people are eligible for vaccination.

New vaccination sites are added weekly.

On Tuesday, the MTA added another vaccine site for employees at Grand Central Station.

“It’s important to me because I can meet my parents,” said Amy Thomas, conductor of the MTA’s Metro-North Railroad. “And I couldn’t see them. They literally live 14 blocks away from me and I’ve seen them twice in the past year. And I’m very excited. The people I first sent the text message to .. As soon as I took the shot, I sent the text message to my parents: “Your baby got the first one!”

“I’m happy that things are open,” another resident told us. “I’m happy that the situation has been adjusted. I can’t wait to get the vaccine.”
